I. Titanic (1997)

The highest grossing film of all time, Titanic also cost the most to date at $200 million. Many thought this would be its downfall, a historical story translated into Hollywood terms with special effects. James Cameron, as only he can do , directed a fantastic tale of a peasant boy played by Leo DiCaprio and his romance with the daughter of rich folk (Kate Winslet) whose romance was outlawed in the midst of the worst ship disaster ever. Good performances throughout, very believable action scenes as the ship sinks, heart-wrenching to see the people perish in the disaster.

II. Forrest Gump (1994)

Winston Groom's Forrest Gump was a novel that was complicated, but (Oscar winning) director Robert Zemeckis brings events together with visual effects that boggle even George Lucas. Tom Hanks wins best actor for the second year in a row for his portrayal of Forrest Gump, a simple man from Alabama who is not the smartest person, the movie follows him through extraordinary eras in our lifetime, from Vietnam, to ping pong championships, to his historic cross country running, Forrest keeps it simple and focuses on his childhood love Jenny, a love that carried him through strenuous times in his life.

III. Slumdog Millionaire(2009)

Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British film directed by Danny Boyle, screenplay written by Simon Beaufoy, and co-directed in India by Loveleen Tandan. It is an adaptation of the novel Q & A (2005) by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup. Set and filmed in India, the film tells the story of Jamal Malik, a young man from the dharavi slums of Mumbai who appears on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (Kaun Banega Crorepati in the Hindi version) and exceeds people's expectations, thereby arousing the suspicions of the game show host and of law enforcement officials.

IV. Shakespeare in Love (1998)

A 1998 romantic comedy film. The film was directed by John Madden and written by Marc Norman and playwright Tom Stoppard. Stoppard's first major success was with the Shakespeare-influenced play Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. The film is largely fictional, although several of the characters are based on real people. Shakespeare in Love won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress (for Gwyneth Paltrow) and Best Supporting Actress (for Judi Dench). V. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2004)

Released on December 17, 2003, it became one of the greatest box-office successes of all time. It won all eleven Academy Awards for which it was nominated, which ties it with only Titanic and Ben-Hur for most Academy Awards ever won. However, it won 11 out of 11 Academy Awards when Ben-Hur won 11 out of 12, and Titanic won 11 out of 14. VI. A Beautiful Mind (2002)

A Beautiful Mind is a 2002 Academy Award winning short film which is a re-enactment of the Oscar-winning films Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind both of which star Russell Crowe. The film's cast consists of newcomer Indian actor Akshay Kapoor in a small role. Although Russel Crowe was considered for the role, he was yet again in prison for throwing phones at random bystanders in Naples, Italy.

VII. Braveheart (1995)

Mel Gibson masterpiece Epic story of William Wallace, a peasant Scot who led an uprising against the heavily armed Brits in th 14th century, very inspiring tale of the underdog stepping up and challenging the bully. Sad tale full of great characters, acting, score and cinematography, very symbolic scenes and very memorable quotes throughout. It boasts one of the most realistic battle scenes ever to be captured on film. A movie for the ages.

VIII. Schindler's List (1993)

Schindler's List is a very difficult movie to watch but one that has to be watched, it is shot in black and white and has a documentary feel to it. An incredible performance by Liam Neeson as Schindler and Ben Kingsley plays Itzhak Stern, Schindler's accountant and a Jew himself. The movie has horrific crimes by the Nazis depicted in very graphic detail and you are not human if you don't find yourself teary-eyed after seeing this. This epic earned Spielberg his first Oscar as Director and Picture, well deserved, my #1 best movie that won Best Picture.

IX. The Silence of the Lambs (1992)

The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 American thriller film, which blends elements of the crime and horror genres. It is directed by Jonathan Demme and stars Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn, and Ted Levine. It is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Harris, his second to feature Dr. Hannibal Lecter,a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. In the film, Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee, seeks the advice of the imprisoned Lecter on catching a serial killer known only as "Buffalo Bill". The film won the top five Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Screenplay. To date, it is the third and most recent winner of this achievement.

X. Avatar

Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction epic film written and directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang. The film is set in the year 2154, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora, a lush moon of a giant planet in the Alpha Centauri star system.[5] The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi—a sentient humanoid species indigenous to Pandora. While not widely touted, Nokia's Ovi Music store is on track to make Nokia's music catalog DRM-free globally. This was first mentioned in December at Nokia's Capital Market Days event. Keep in mind that we're talking about Nokia's a la carte music download service, not its all you can eat Comes with Music offering that lets you keep all the tracks you can download in the first year but locks them to a single Nokia handset and PC for life. Russia's Ovi Music store was the first to go DRM-free back in November while adding single sign-on with other Ovi services during the revamp process. Now we're hearing that India has quietly joined suit with its Nokia Music store becoming the DRM-free Ovi Music incarnation. Nokia is apparently focusing on growth markets first on its way to more western markets but it's a good sign that its fair use debilitating DRM is on the way out -- a good thing for consumers and a change, like free Ovi Maps, that makes Nokia handsets just a bit more attractive.

Well, here's one way to get people to start paying for content they're used to getting for free: Charge them for access via a specific device.

Rumors are running wild that web TV powerhouse Hulu is working on a deal to charge users for accessing the website... if they access it via an Apple iPad.

Hulu has been downright desperate to figure out a way to get people to pay for its service for months. It currently makes money by charging for video advertising during its programming, but viewership still doesn't compare to that of regular TV programming, so the cash from ad sales is low.

Meanwhile, executives would love to see revenue pouring in from non-traditional sources, and for better or worse, that means you and me. But with myriad free video sites on the web, getting viewers to pay for video hasn't been easy. In fact, it may very well be impossible to get someone to pay a buck or two to watch something on a tiny screen on their PC when it's free on the 42-inch set in the living room.

Enter the iPad. While the jury's out as to whether the world will embrace the device, it's unique in that it's not a computer. Specifically, it doesn't run Flash, which means all of those embedded videos that litter the web simply won't play on the device. iPad users who visit Hulu via a web browser will pretty much be out of luck.

Solution: A Hulu app created specifically for the iPad... and one that you have to pay for (and probably keep paying for over time, the good old cable TV model). (Think YouTube for the iPhone, but with a subscription fee attached.)

It's a risky strategy, but it's one that just might be crazy enough to work. The design and portability of the iPad (or any tablet) make it compelling as an always-at-the-ready television, and 3G models mean viewers can catch their shows anywhere, in the kitchen while dinner's cooking or on the bus to work. The larger screen offers a much more compelling viewing experience than watching TV on a cell phone, and even on handsets we are seeing more and more interest in video broadcasting, so the interest is there, at least.

Meanwhile, Hulu wants to target phones and standard TVs with some sort of broadcasting technology... though how it makes it to the TV without cannibalizing the networks that actually own it remains a big question.

The speech was punctuated by tough talk, hearty applause from both sides, and an odd reaction from one Supreme Court justice.

The president tried to reassure Americans that he understood their frustrations. He defended his decision to support continued bank bailouts as "necessary," but emphasized that no one was happy about the move. They were, he said, "about as popular as a root canal."

Is Avatar Really King Of The Box Office?

Yes, it's got the biggest worldwide gross of all time.
But it's still no "Gone With The Wind."

James Cameron broke his own record Tuesday. With a $1.86 billion haul, "Avatar" beat "Titanic" to become the highest grossing movie of all time at the worldwide box office.

It's a remarkable achievement. But before every Hollywood studio exec decides that all future movies must be in 3-D and feature blue aliens, it's worth getting a little perspective on the film.

"Avatar" has the advantage of showing in 3-D (which usually commands an average $3 extra per ticket) and coming out at a time when even 2-D movie tickets are more expensive than ever. According to the National Association of Theater Owners, the average ticket price in 2008 was $7.18, up 56% from prices in 1997 when "Titanic" was in theaters.

A look at domestic grosses adjusted for inflation shows a more realistic view of "Avatar"'s performance.

In the U.S., "Avatar" has grossed $555 million making it the second highest grossing domestic (as opposed to worldwide) film of all time. Titanic is temporarily still in the lead here with $600.8 million.

But adjusting for ticket price for inflation, Avatar ranks as the 26th highest grossing film in the U.S., according to Box Office Mojo. Number one? "Gone With The Wind" with $1.5 billion adjusted gross in the U.S. "Star Wars" ranks second with $1.3 billion.

Cameron's "Titanic" ranks sixth (just behind "The Ten Commandments") with an adjusted $943 million take in the U.S.

Movies are released very differently today then they were in 1939 when "Gone With the Wind" premiered. The film showed originally in 156 theaters in the U.S. "Avatar" premiered on 3,452 screens. "Gone With the Wind" was re-released in 1947, 1954 and 1961. In 1967 it was shown in 70 mm. With as many as 600 films being released per year, these days few films get a second shot in theaters.

Of course movie now can sometimes double their box office with DVD and television sales. Here we're only looking at box office.

Even some modern films beat "Avatar" when looked at through a price-adjusted prism. "Forrest Gump" (1994) ranks 22nd with an adjusted $623 million box office. "Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace," which was released in 1999, ranks 19th with an adjusted $623 million domestic gross.

But most of the films at the top are from at least 30 years ago. "The Sound of Music" ranks third with an adjusted $1.05 billion take. "E.T." is just behind with $1.04 billion.

With no film on the near horizon poised to challenge "Avatar"'s dominance, the film is sure to continue to mint money. But it's got a way's to go to catch up with a classic like "Gone With The Wind."

Apple may still officially be "pondering" whether it should approve Google's Google Voice app for iPhone, but there's finally good news: Google has released an entirely Web-based version of the service (at m .google.com/voice). It works on the iPhone as well as Palm's Pre and Pixi handsets, and brings a large chunk of the functionality of the native Voice apps for Android and BlackBerry to your phone's browser.

This new version, like mobile Gmail, is among the most app-like browser services I've ever seen, period, letting you dial from your Google contacts list or a keypad, read and listen to messages, send text messages, and configure the app right within mobile Safari. When you make calls using it, the person who answers sees your Google Voice number, not the "real" one associated with your phone: Google makes an outgoing call from the iPhone, then reroutes it over a line of its own.

There's only so far that a Web-based telephony app can go. On Android and BlackBerry, Google Voice can insert itself as your default phone interface, and it gets access to the contacts stored on your phone. On the iPhone, it stays a secondary interface and can't see your local contacts. (You can, however, use Google Sync to sync your phone's contacts with your Google Account.) When you make an outgoing call, your iPhone confirms you want to do so and shows Google's routing number rather than the one you're really calling–kind of confusing. And while the interface for wrangling messages is a vast improvement on the rudimentary one in the old Web-based Google Voice, it still send you out of Safari and into QuickTime when you want to listen to a message.

In short, the new Web-based Google Voice is impressive–but it doesn't eliminate the value that a true native Google Voice for iPhone might bring. I'm gloomily assuming that its arrive eliminates whatever remaining chance there was that Apple might approve the app, unless the FCC decides to weigh in further. But I’m also relieved that around 80% of the Google Voice experience–just to pick a number at random–has landed on my iPhone.
